At the moment, we’re waiting for our customised Youthwatching ‘09 shirts. We’re thrilled that some extremely talented young people agreed to give their interpretation of Youthwatching and Trendwolves.
While we wait, however, we still got some promotion to do for the event. That’s why we were really glad to see the temporary promo shirts coming in today. Polle, our one-man Dutch promoteam, seems really happy showing off his shirt. Expect a heavy-promoting Polle, soon, in a city near you
With about six weeks remaining, we’re working hard to finalize the floor plan and interior design for the event during the day and the party at night. The creative possibilities are endless, now it’s up to making choices.
After receiving a Master of Laws at Leiden University, Willem started his career in 1994 at Michael Porter’s strategy consultancy Monitor Company. In 1998 he launched an ‘incubator’, which helped create several new companies and concepts. Willem has been involved in marketing and innovation ever since. In a number of startups he actively sought out consumers to play a part in marketing. The incredible enthusiasm of the ‘user‘ to be able to get involved and the raw power of their opnions left him wanting more of it. Better harnassed, managed and stimulated. Buzzer is the result.
About Buzzer
The verb ‘buzzen’ (‘to buzz’) has rapidly become a household word in The Netherlands. Buzzer, the first European WoM Marketing agency, is responsible for this language innovation. Willem Sodderland launched the agency in 2004 with the ambition to let consumers play an active role in the marketing process. Since then, tens of thousands of consumers have tried out new products, spread on- and offline buzz and provided feedback. Millions and millions of word of mouth interactions between consumers have resulted, and many products and marketing programs have been optimised through the feedback. In 2008, Buzzer is working for an impressive list of local and multinational brands and has become a recognised authority in the domain of WoM and consumer dialogue and participation. Amsterdam-based, Buzzer has expanded to Belgium and will be launching in other markets in 2008.

We just confirmed the old Eskimo Factory in Gent as the location of the Youthwatching ‘09 event. The location is a renovated and modernly equipped textile factory from the nineteenth century.
The oldest buildings, among which the “Grote Fabriek”, the “Kleine Fabriek” and the “Promenade”, date from the end of the 19th century. The buildings, visible from the street side, date from 1946 and were also part of the same factory - “Usines Cotonnieres Indienneries Belges” - with a surface of 46 ha. They reached up to the beautifully renovated historical towers of the Vynckier factory (General Electrics).
The factory was divided at the bankruptcy of the Usines Cotonnieres and the building of the current Eskimofabriek was saved, cleaned and adapted around 1970 to the activities of the company De Groote with its well-known “Eskimo”.
In 1996, “Eskimo” moved to Melle, which resulted in empty buildings for some time. The organizers of the Eskimo-parties took their chance to transform this historical building to the fairly successful eventhall. At the beginning of the year 2000, “Eskimo” had expanded to a mega festival, well-known far beyond all bounds. Among many others, the internationally known Dewaele Brothers of Soulwax and Saint-Germain have performed at the Eskimofabriek.
Since the beginning of the year 2005 and after submitting a town-planning and environmental permission, the oldest parts of the Eskimofabriek are renovated.
