Cameron started his career as a musician back in the early 90s with Pete Waterman backed band ‘New Atlantic’, with two top 20 hits and numerous TV performances, including Top of the Pops. His childhood ambition realised, he then picked up a double first from Cambridge before moving into advertising as a planner with WCRS, where his contribution to the development of the Orange brand led to him being recognised by Campaign magazine as one of the UK’s ‘Top 10 Strategic Planners’. His pivotal role in the launch of 118 118, helping deliver the most visible ad campaign in over 10 years, led to a preposterous nomination as the UK’s most creatively successful person in the FT’s “Creative Business Top 50″, ahead of the slightly better remunerated JK Rowling, and the rather more successful Andy Duncan. Armed with an MBA with distinction from City University, Cameron joined Channel 4 in 2006 as head of marketing for digital channels – E4, More4 and Film4. Since then Film4 enjoyed a hugely successful relaunch, making it a top 10 UK channel, More4 has increased audience share by 28% and picked up a clutch of creative awards, E4 has picked up Broadcast, IPA, Marketing Week effectiveness awards a plenty with groundbreaking campaigns for the likes of Skins and Fonejacker, and 4Music has launched as the leading music channel for 1634’s, overtaking MTV’s TMF.
Cameron was chosen as one of Marketing’s Next Generation: Power 100 marketers, and in his spare time is a successful remixer/producer with the dance outfit The Young Punx who by all accounts are very big in Japan where they recently supported the Stereophonics in front of 12,000 adoring / slightly bemused fans.
